Feng shui tips to attract love and romance

According to Chinese Astrology, the year of the Rabbit 2011 is called a Peach Blossom or Romance Flower indicating romance will be the hot topic of 2011 - perfect timing for Prince William and Kate Middleton to announce their engagement and the wedding on April 29, 2011.

If you are looking for someone special, here are some general feng shui tips to attract love and romance into your life.
  • The South West section of your home is the Relationship Sector. Ensure that there is no clutter in the south west area of your house.
  • If possible, activate the South West area by adding a beautiful healthy plant, or fresh flowers.
  • Place a beautiful, romantic picture or print on the wall in the South West sector of your home.
  • Remove photos of family members or children from the South West area of your home and put them in the South East area of your home as this sector relates to family relationships.
  • In the South West corner of your bedroom set aside a small area to dedicate to the kind of relationship you are looking for.   Place paintings, postcards or prints that symbolise a happy relationship here.  If you are looking for someone who is affectionate, make sure the images you have chosen show a couple holding hands, or hugging each other.
  • Create a positive and beautiful focal point by adding two crystals, or two candles around your pictures in the South West corner of your bedroom.  Every time you see this area, say a positive affirmation such as 'I have a wonderful loving relationship'.
  • Take some time to write down the type of person you are looking for.  Be specific and don't leave anything out.  Place the profile of your perfect partner under the pictures, candles, or crystals you have placed in the South West corner.
  • Ensure furniture is paired in the bedroom.  Two matching lamps, two matching sidetables etc.
  • And of course the most important thing to do is to go out and start dating again.  Mr or Mrs Right is not going to come knocking on your door.  A little effort is required to make your dreams come true.

My Ghost Clearing Adventures

I have to say I really love conducting space clearings for people, especially when a ghost is involved! People ask me 'do you get scared?' No, because I understand ghosts or spirits are just confused earth bound spirits. I consider it a great honour to be able to help them home.

Sometimes the spirit is attached to an object, a person, or the building. I remember a lovely young mother who I shall call Vanessa. Just in the past year, she had been having terrible problems with her teenage daughter. Her daughter had publicly announced on social media sites how much she hated her. I dowsed and found out a troubled male teenage spirit had been hanging around her daughter causing trouble. After I conducted a space clearing, she had no further problems with her daughter, besides the usual teenage frustrations.

I was called to do a space clearing at Gemma's home. She expressed concern her 5 year old son would say 'I don't mean to do bad things Mummy, but the voice tells me to be bad'.

The night before I was to conduct the space clearing, I had a dream about a man welcoming me into his home for a party, and then at the end of the night he walked me to my car. In the dream, I thought I'd better go home now as I had a space clearing to do. When I entered Gemma's home the next day, I saw a photo of her husband and immediately recognised him as the man in my dream. I told Gemma about the dream, and I considered it was a very good sign to be welcomed into the home by her husband. As it turned out, it was Gemma's husband who asked her to get me in to do the space clearing, 'but don't tell anyone' he said! He was concerned about the footsteps he heard on the stairs in the middle of the night.

I found another young male spirit influencing her son, and also some negative energy attached to an old chest of drawers located in his bedroom. Gemma's son no longer talks about hearing voices, and the footsteps in the middle of the night are gone.

Laura contacted me because she was exhausted. Her two children were terrified sleeping alone in their bedrooms. Every night around 4am, they would wake her up and ask her to sleep with them. One night when her husband got a little tipsy, he admitted he was scared to be alone upstairs too.

A few days before my visit, I saw a vision of an old man, very skinny, dark hair, wearing a tartan dressing gown. I gave Laura a call and asked her if she could find out if an old man had owned the home. As soon as I mentioned my vision, she said the whole suburb had a lot of old men living alone. She felt my vision fitted the events and further investigation was not necessary.

On the day of my space clearing, Laura told me her son talked about 'the spaghetti man who would come through the walls at night'. Laura felt my description of a 'skinny old man' was spot on.

I found out the spirit was unaware he was scaring the family, and was quite happy to move on to the other side where friends and family would be waiting. To help build the children's confidence, I made protection pouches filled with sacred herbs which the children could keep beside their bed at night.

I find this work so rewarding! I feel privileged to be able to bring peace to children and parents alike, and to help spirits cross over. I must admit I often get very emotional (and a little teary) when I know the spirit has moved on to a happier place. Please note - all names have been change to protect my clients' privacy.

Ben Cousins' Astrology Story

Due to requests from my Australian blog subscribers, I would like to give a little insight into this talented and troubled young man with Chinese Astrology. For overseas subscribers, Ben Cousins was one of Australia's brightest young AFL football players. His career fell apart due to addiction to illegal substances. A controversial and revealing series was shown on Australian TV following this young man's struggle with drugs, fame and football hierachy.

When you look at Ben Cousins' chart, you can see his story reflected in his Chinese 4 Pillars chart. I will give a brief analysis of what I found using simple terminology, to give you a feel of Ben's charms and challenges. Ben was born on 30 June, 1978. Unfortunately I was not able to find his time of birth, so his chart analysis is somewhat incomplete.
  1. Hour Pillar - Yin Water/Water Pig
  2. Month Pillar - Yang Earth/Fire Horse
  3. Year Pillar - Yang Earth/Fire Horse
Ben is Yin Water, which means he can seem quite gentle on the outside, but underneath he can be determined and tenacious achieving his goals. Water people are generally quite restrained and secretive. Water people are not the likely to cry on people's shoulder, or show their real emotions to anyone and everyone, which was quite evident in 'Such is Life'.

Ben has no expression element (wood). Without it, his chart is like a pressure cooker with no outlet valve, the substance abuse became his way to 'let off steam'. Expression element allows us to say how we feel, share our hopes and dreams, and create ..... this element is missing in Ben's chart, so again we see it is not easy for him to reveal all.

Power element is very strong in his chart. Power element drives us, but excessive power can make Ben feel stressed and under pressure. Untill I have his time of birth, it would appear he no foundation element (metal) which is important because it relates to our foundations and our ability to stay grounded and steady during difficult times.

As you can see above, Ben has two Fire Horses in his chart. Imagine a young racehorse at the peak of its physical condition. They are a perfect example of speed and strength, and yet they become so highly strung, the slightest thing can set them off. Horses, will often injure themselves trying to get out of the stable, or kill themselves trying to get over a fence if something spooks them. Symbolically, I see Ben Cousins as that young racehorse, the young stallion strutting round the field, ready to jump the fence at any moment and run wild.

Strong Fire in his chart gives Ben charisma and passion, but when unbalanced can lead to depression, anxiety, insomnia .. a disturbed person. When you light a fire it will consume everything in its path if given enough space and fuel, which is what happened on Ben's week long benders. His chart suggests Ben has hyperactive tendencies, so I feel his addiction to drugs was initially fueled by his need to relax and switch off. He sits on a Travel Star, which is another indicator he would always be restless, needing movement, travel and variety.

Ben sits on a Heaven Star of Virtue which gives him more charisma, success and leadership qualities. Perhaps he could use his leadership qualities to coach kids on drug avoidance. Ben has two Romance Flowers making him attractive to the opposite sex. His chart shows power and fame comes to him without effort, so he would be quite surprised by all the fuss, hype, and media attention he receives.

This year Ben has a harmony combination with the Tiger year and this combination creates more fire. In Ben's chart, fire relates to money, so he will no doubt get good financial return from his TV series. His strong fire and Heaven Star of Virtue all give him the charisma and charm to continue to do well in the public eye such as television, film etc.

Next year, the year of the Rabbit (from Feb 4), will be a good year for Ben. His Romance Flower appears, so he may meet a special lady in December this year, or early next year. The year of the Rabbit also brings his Nobleman, someone who will help him. That person may help him in his new career, or help him find a new direction, or perhaps the new girlfriend will help him in some way. His Academic Star appears also, which will spur him on to study, learn something new, or seek greater understanding of himself.

I wish Ben Cousins well on his life journey. He does not have an easy chart! It will take time and greater understanding of his strengths and weaknesses to balance his life and tap into his true power. I see his early forties will be a time of greater harmony. There are signs he may even move overseas, or away from from his family (interstate) permanently around that time too.

Warm wishes, Carol G Partridge of Sacred Feng Shui Design

Astrological Influences and the Australian Election Limbo - August 2010

In the past week I have had a number of clients email me asking if there were planetary/astrological influences which could explain the Australian Election events. Indeed there were some indicators present in the chart of the time the voting opened on Saturday.

Venus and Mars (female & male) were conjuct (sitting together) on the ascendant (public persona). This indicated female and male were considered of equal stature in the public's eye. Secondly, they were being squared (opposing force) by Pluto. Pluto squared represents power struggles, unseen forces and the underworld. So the power struggle can now be seen. Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott have had their power taken away, and they must now negotiate with the Greens and Independents to gain their power. Of course I am sure there will be some underhand and dirty deals (very plutonic) which will go on behind the scenes to pursuade the other parties.

Also, Mercury went retrograde (it moves closer to the earth) on the day of the election. Mercury retrograde represents confusion, mistakes and delays in all forms of communication and connections. Hence there has been mistakes in the vote count in some electorates. In Chinese Astrology, this is the clash month of the Year of the Tiger, representing change, challenges and conflict. The clash month finishes September 7 so I believe one layer of struggle will be removed. However Mercury remains retrograde until September 13, so the real outcome will be much clearer in the 2nd week of September. Perhaps by then, there will be talk of another vote.

But I must add, whenever Pluto is present in a chart analysis, unseen forces are at hand, so it can be very hard to predict the outcome.

How to Feng Shui your Desk for Success & Good Health

As a qualified feng shui consultant, I am frequently asked for general feng shui advice on how to arrange a work or home office desk to enhance success and good health.

  • When sitting at your desk, it is best to have your back against a solid wall. This represents feeling supported and protected by life and your superiors. I often find people place the back of the desk against a wall, and leave their back exposed. It is a basic human instinct to feel vulnerable in this position. If you feel uncomfortable you will not be able to concentrate and focus on the job at hand.
  • You must be able to see who comes in and out of the room from your desk. You feel comfortable and in control of your environment when you can see what is going on, and who is coming in.
  • EMFs are always a concern in an office environment. These days, most computers emit low electro-magnetic radiation, however the transformer on the adapter cable of your laptop emits high EMFs, so keep the transformer as far away from your body as possible. Power boards also emit high EMFs and should be placed at least two metres away from your body.
  • Positive ions and static build up from all electrical devices, and synthetic clothes and shoes rubbing on synthetic chairs and carpet. Air-conditioning can also create a very dry atmosphere. Himalayan Salt Lamps are a very cheap and attractive way to ionise the air. Place it next to your computer.
  • Most home offices also contain printers. Printing inks contain benzene. In addition to irritation of the eyes and skin, chronic exposure to even low levels of benzene causes headaches and drowsiness. Whilst printing at home, leave a window in the room open. In a business office this may not be possible. The good news is certain plants are proficient at absorbing harmful chemicals. Please read my previous blog article 'Improve indoor air quality with plants' for advice on which plants to use. Plants also expel oxygen, so I would recommend a plant for the home and work office as oxygen keeps us alert and mentally agile.
  • Keep your work area tidy! Cluttered work spaces can make you feel burdened, depressed, tired and unable to think clearly.
  • Place an inspirational picture in your office. Are you working towards a promotion? Are you saving for a holiday? Are you working hard to buy a beautiful home? Does a photo of your family or pet uplift you? Fill your office with images and objects that lift your spirits. This is a good position for a Vision Board.

Top 5 Feng Shui Tips - What to look for when buying a home

  1. Ensure the property is easy to find. If you have trouble finding the home, so will opportunities and positive energy.
  2. Look for a home with a sunny front face with lots of natural light inside. Sun light symbolises yang qi, warm, energizing, motivating, positive. Shadow or darkness symbolises yin qi, cold, demotivating, peaceful, rest. A home with a sunny face or front is warm and inviting, and encourages positive energy & qi to enter your home & life. A home with lots of natural light inside will keep you motivated & active. You can always add heavy curtains to bedrooms to create yin qi, where peace and rest is important. However it is difficult to make a dark or shady home sunny unless you use artificial light and that does not have the same uplifting qualities as natural light.
  3. Avoid buying a home with a troublesome history or book a feng shui consultation a.s.a.p. Find out as much as you can about the previous occupants. Are they selling because of a relationship breakdown, has someone lost their job? If you decide to buy a home with a difficult history because it is a bargain, or you simply must have it, be prepared for a similar outcome when you move in. The good news is a qualifed feng shui consultant trained in form, compass and flying stars feng shui will be able to improve the energy and prosperity of a home with a difficult past.
  4. Avoid a buying a home on a busy road. Pollution from cars will adversely affect your health over time, the noise from trains, trams and cars will make it difficult for you to have a good nights sleep which is important for your well being.
  5. How close are Power Poles & Mobile Phone Towers? Your home & particularly your bedrooms need to be at least 200 meters away from high voltage transmission lines and street power lines. The electromagnetic radiation from power poles is very powerful and will radiate into the home causing all sorts of health problems. Mobile phone towers are often on top of high rise buildings, apartment blocks & shopping centres. Have a good look in the surrounding streets, look at Google Maps for a birds eye view. Your home needs to be at least 300 meters away from mobile phone towers. Read more about sick homes!

Improve the feng shui of your home/office & the indoor air quality with plants

Indoor plants can absorb harmful chemicals and improve air quality, making your home or office a more pleasant place to live or work.

They also fill a room with peace, and have been proven to be emotionally uplifting.

The most common harmful airborne chemicals found in the average home or office are formaldeyde, benzene, trichloroethylene, and carbon monoxide. Even in low concentrations, these chemicals can cause a variety of health problems.

According to former NASA research scientist Dr. Wolverton, several varieties of houseplants excel in removing these chemical pollutants from the air (How to Grow Fresh Air, 1996). The most effective in removing formaldehyde were philodendron, spider plant and golden pathos. Two common flowering varieties were the most efficient at removing benezene; these were gerbera daisy and chrysanthemum. The peace lily and the chrysanthemum removed the highest percentage of trichoroethylene.

Since all plants utilize carbon in the process of producing new growth, all these varieties are effective in removing low levels of carbon monoxide. Other varieties found to be especially effective in cleaning the air were english ivy, chinese evergreen, bamboo palm, snake plant (mother-in-law's tongue) and several types of dracaena, including marginata, corn plant, and janet craig.

Formaldehyde is used in particle board or pressed wood products to make office or household furniture, in carpets, permanent pressed clothes, water repellants & fire retardants. Other sources include natural gas, kerosene, and cigarette smoke. Formaldehyde irritates the membranes of the eyes, nose, and throat and can cause headaches.

Benzene is present in inks, oils, paints, and plastics. In addition to irritation of the eyes and skin, chronic exposure to low levels of benzene causes headaches, loss of appetite, and drowsiness.

Trichloroethylene is used by dry cleaners and in printing inks, paints, varnishes and adhesives. This chemical is considered to be a potent liver carcinogen.

All plants produce oxygen through the process of photosynthesis. Thus any plants you choose, in addition to the varieties named here, will increase the concentration of oxygen in their immediate surroundings. According to McNally (2008) 'one large plant per 100 square feet is sufficient to clean the air in an average home or office.'
